A Study of Co-relations between Emotional Intelligence and Spiritual Intelligence for Children

|
The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence. Specifically, these two aspects of the cognitive process play in children’s educational programs. The subjects of this study were 466 boys and girls of 6th graders from A and B elementary schools in Jeju city. The statistical analysis of the data was analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program to estimate the frequencies, mean, t-test, Pearson’s correlation and Multiple Regression. The questionnaire was examined by the Cronbach’α for verification of the reliability of the scales. The t-test was utilized to find the differences between emotional and spiritual intelligence in the means of their gender. Pearson’s correlation analysis was employed to find the relationship between the two intelligences. Multiple Regression was used to find out how emotional intelligence affects spiritual intelligence. The results of this study were as follows: First, there was a significant difference in the ability to recognize the emotional state of others among the boys exhibiting a superiority to empathize. Second, there was no significant difference by gender in spiritual intelligence. Third, the correlation between emotional and spiritual intelligence shows that these two types of intelligence are related. Fourth, emotional recognition had a positive influence on transcendence, while emotional control had a negative influence on relatedness. The study shows that emotional intelligence affects spiritual intelligence. The implementation of the study will be by developing these two intelligences sufficiently together in order to develop creative thinking and spiritual intelligence for the development of morality and sensibility.
